GoDaddy Resellers

As readers of this blog may or may not know I'm a GoDaddy employee and just completed my sixth year of employment.

Recently I moved from managing the Website Builder development team to the Reseller development team.

I plan on blogging about the work that we're doing on the reseller project from both a product and a technical point of view. We hope to be making some of our work open source for the benefit of the community and I'll talk about that here as well.

AMA - Feel free to Ask Me Anything about the Resellers Product or GoDaddy in the comments below. If I don't know the answer I'll try and find it for you.

I love our new advert for the generic top-level domains (gTLD) that are  coming:

Update on 2/5/2014: New GoDaddy Reseller Blog for you to keep up-to-date on what we're doing.

  1. I switched away from reseller due to it's broken up module style system. Been sharing my own vs space via plesk since. What benefits will you bring the reseller program? Do I think of reseller in the wrong sense?

  2. Hi Delacombo - can you elaborate on the "broken up module style system?"

  3. Can you give some insight on what is happening with the super and pro reseller programs? Will pro resellers be able to sell the cPanel reseller programs? Will pro resellers be able to offer cPanel hosting? As a third year pro reseller I have considered pulling the plug. All the storefronts basically look the same and it is close to impossible to get anywhere with search engines. What the Super and Pro reseller programs need is for everyone to be able to customize their entire storefront or more of an API based system. I do believe it is a good program but is in need of a serious makeover. Also all the resellers having the same support phone number is a dead give away. There are ways around that but it is at the expense of the reseller.

    Thanks!!

    1. Hi JD - thanks for your comments. We don't know the answers to your questions yet as we're still working on that. I agree that it needs a makeover and that's what we're working on. Our product managers are busy calling Resellers to talk to them about the points that you brought up. If there is a way to contact you then I can put you in contact with one of the Reseller product managers and get you air time to allow you to help us shape the makeover...

  4. I stumbled across your blog from a post on a GD reseller forum. I am a former GD employee (1996-1997) and have been a reseller since 1997. It seems that over the past two or three months there has been a total communications blackout, with no updates in the RCC, no new product announcements, no e-mail or phone contact from the department.

You have a lot of resellers ready to jump ship. Some sort of posting in the RCC letting us know that there is still a reseller department would be a good idea, With the new CPanel/Plesk hosting from GD, the new tld's coming out, etc. the resellers feel even more that they are being ignored.

    1. Hi Walter - thanks for your comment!

Thank you for keeping us honest with the communication. I've chatted the team and we are working on a communication strategy to keep you up-to-date on what is happening. We hope to execute on that soon so you should be hearing much more from us in the near future.

In order for you to give us a 10/10 score in communication what would we have to do? i.e. what are your expectations if we got it perfect?

We are fully committed to our resellers and will be doubling our efforts to make sure we let you know what we're up to.

  5. Here is a comment from the Reseller Forum, which I suggest you go to and respond every once in a while.

    From ldearing02

I appreciate your offer, I’ll take you up on it. I’m anxious to hear about future plans BUT MORE IMPORTANT is how they will be handled. There are currently serious quality control issues. I think process needs to be addresses first…..

of particular concerns: currant broken function of Super reseller store front. top menu is flushed left on subsequent pages like, pro and basic page… front page displays okay… second time in a few months. This took weeks to fix last time. On the super store front there are direct links to LIVE shopping cart of Domains Priced Right(DPR). Not the version with the prices X’d out and dead “add to cart” button, we’re talking many real and LIVE links into their shopping cart and live top menu taking you to their store front. Over all appearance of the Super store front looks like a late 90′s spam&scam site.

on the basic/super store front there is currently a godaddy.com site verification badge on the right side of the reseller’s shopping cart.

These types of things need to just stop happening and when they do accidently occur, they need be handled IMMEDIATLY… not “not ETA” and then long fix times. Example… last time top menu was flushed left it took weeks to fix… The leaks to DPR have been an issue for over two years

So glad you’re on board.. we need focused new blood.

    1. Hi Walter - ldearing02 makes some good points that we are generally aware of and are working towards resolutions for. We'll keep an eye on that forum topic.

  6. So, what is the plan since the Forums are being retired on the Go Daddy site? It's about the only way we know what is going on. Also, in the communication today in the RCC, there is no link to click on when it says:

Search Engine Visibility Premium is being retired. You can view details about the plan to phase it out, including communication to your customers, here.

    No link for the "here."

    1. Hi Walter - Thanks for pointing out the missing link. It should have been added by now. If not, here it is: http://help.securepaynet.net/article/8962?prog_id=wildwestdomains

We're still trying to work out what we'll be doing in place of Forums. We definitely want to keep the communication channel open with you and other resellers (hence this blog post). We need to make sure that we have the most effective way to keep you up-to-date so we are currently evaluating a few options.

  7. Hi Guy,

Any update on the plans for reseller web hosting sales? GD is doing Plesk and CPanel, but the resellers are still on legacy hosting.

    1. We are looking at improving many areas on the reseller program and this is one of the areas that we're looking at. We are prioritizing which parts to tackle so that we have the biggest positive impact to your profitability first and then tackle the lower impact items later.

  8. Hi Guy,

I have noticed that in the help article "Verifying Contact Information for ICANN Validation" the link for logging into "My Account" has a GoDaddy link on it. It needs to be corrected! The article will be found at: http://help.securepaynet.net/article/8948?prog_id=xxxxxx (plug in your Prog_ID).

    1. Hi Walter. Yes, it needs to be corrected! I'm working on that now. I will try and see that it's done before end of day on Monday. Thank you for pointing it out. Longer term I'm going to work with the team that manages those pages to put in checks that will catch human errors like that.

    2. Hi Walter. That problem with GoDaddy in the link has been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.

  9. Be advised that I had an issue with the e-mail address not verifying (ticket 21601733) and was given a response from support that copied and pasted the support article that I quoted. If I was not a reseller and aware of the link problem, my customers would be going to a site that they are unfamiliar with.

Feel free to contact me more directly, as there may be an issue.

Finally, I just received an e-mail from support saying that my forum post pointing out the error in the help article violated the TOS.

    1. Hi Walter, One of our product managers (Ian) tried to call you on Thursday and again on Friday (to my understanding) but hasn't been able to get hold of you. Is your contact info up-to-date in our system? I'm looking into what you've commented here. Thanks again for reaching out.

    2. I had a missed call on Thursday, but nothing on Friday. No voice mail left to return a call though.

  12. Hi, when resellers will be able to sell the new TLD's? Also any chance of giving resellers the opportunity to have various look and feel store front themes? Support contact no is similar for all. It will be easy if resellers have the opportunity to update the support contact no on the website to a local no. which in then forwarded to the godaddy reseller customer support centre.
